The drug strategy: one year on

The government published the new drug strategy on 27 February 2008. In the year since its publication there has been a great deal of progress, with drug use now down to its lowest level in more than a decade.

Drugs: protecting families and communities aims to restrict the supply of illegal drugs and reduce the demand for them. It focuses on protecting families and strengthening communities.

The 2008 drug strategy: one year on details the progress in the year since the launch of the drug strategy. It focuses on the key areas of work:

  • enforcing the law and protecting communities
  • preventing harm to young people and families
  • improving drug treatment and helping people to reintegrate into society
  • communications and community engagement
